I have been buying ALL my sewing machines from American Sew and Vac for over 10 years...3 vacuums, and 4 machines (love Janome!)...including a quilting machine (Babylock). They always have the best price. And Marc is exceptional in his customer service. There have been several times where I have had a problem with a machine, brought it in, and he and the staff have gone above and beyond to help me. Even Barry took my vacuum apart on the floor in front of me when I sucked up the kid's bouncy ball...yeah, I got a lifted eyebrow for that. But that was kind of funny. Yes, the place is chaotic! Yes, they are very sales driven...so before you go, do your research. They want to send you home with a machine, but they also want you happy. At the same time, they are willing to answer any questions you have and are EXTREMELY knowledgeable with what they carry. I have always been happy with my purchases, their customer service, and repairs I have needed over the years.

I tried numerous times to get a service call for my central vacuum cleaner and the gentlemen who does the service call either wasn't in the time I called or just left me on hold for ever. I've never been some place where the customer service is so poor. We bought the central vacuum from this store but I would not recommend using them. I finally gave up and went to Newtown Electric, who were unbelievable responsive and responsible. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS STORE.
My mother bought her Janome Jem Gold 660 from them two years ago and hasn't been happier. She has referred many people to them as well, and at the NJ State Quilt Show 2009, I bought a used one from them. They are happy to work with you and learn your needs and make recommendations based on your level of comfort and your budget. They also do excellent tune-up and repair of all machines and they will tell you if it is not worth it to repair and won't jerk you around.
DO NOT BRING YOUR VACUUM HERE TO BE REPAIRED! I brought my vacuum here to be repaired. They charged me 135 and when I brought it home, I was still having the same problem. So I called and was told to bring my vacuum back with the receipt. When I went there the owner told me that they will have to charge me again to fix it. I paid them 135 and I still have a vacuum that is not usable.
I took my dyson to be fixed at this place. They told me they'd call me with an estimate of the cost for the repair. They never called. I went back about a month later and asked to have my vacuum back. They had repaired it without giving me an estimate and without my approval. I said I didn't want to pay what they were charging for the repair. After a brief argument I got my vacuum back for 50. It was a lousy experience but my vacuum works.
If i could give zero stars, I would. My worst experience with a business that I can recall to date. I brought my old machine in for an estimate because they seemed knowledgable. I brought it in for an ESTIMATE ONLY- being very clear that i was a student with not much money, it was an old machine, i'd only want to do the repair if it was minor. When I called them to check in on it, i was bounced from person to person, hung up on, finally got someone who said my machine was repaired. I never ok'd a repair? They had replaced a pulley." "Whats the cost of the pulley?" "35" Through the conversation, later, it was stated that the repair, with labor was 140- Just the part was 35. He offered to put my old pulley back in and I could pick up my machine as I brought it in. Three mins later I get a call back from them. Someone else yells only my first name at me. "Yes?" He yells that I can get an attorney and my machine is staying there. They took my machine in for an estimate, were rude, evasive, and now they are trying to steal my (actually pretty valuable) sewing machine.
Really wish I had read these reviews before my friend took there cleaner there for repair!, The older man there was so rude to my friend, unbelievable he is still in business!
