PLC of Maine is AGAINST the right to repair. None of it's members asked PLC to speak against the right to repair. He is not representing the members of the PLC in his statements but chose to oppose anyway. He goes on to claim that members only buy equipment from dealers where they can get service. Well when something goes down and could be an easy fix onsite to be back in service, but requires a computer be connected to validate the repair, that causes downtime. He claims it is possible to do this remotely, over the internet, in the woods. Now you need expensive networking equipment to go with your machine. What about the little guy who can't afford the brand new yarder or skidder but would like to have a service manual so he can make repairs to stay in business? He claims that having the right to repair a piece of machinery would void factory warranties. If someone's options were to pay money to a third party to repair an exhaust system, or receive a free repair from a manufacturer, why would they not choose the free option? That is not what right to repair is about. The PLC supports the destruction of our environment by opposing the right to repair logging machinery but in turn, opposing the repair of consumer electronics, phones, computers, tvs, etc. This puts all of these devices into landfills to be replaced instead of repaired to keep them useful. Do you want to spend 1000 dollars every time you drop your phone in the mud or break your screen? Or would yoj like to have the option to have that screen replaced?
