When this tree was no longer able to function as a tree - maybe storm damaged, weakened by diseases or simply old age - Leicester City Council Parks Department took a much more imaginative approach instead of just cutting it down to ground level and turning it into woodchips or turning it into a glorified seat. They used a chainsaw to carve the remaining trunk into several animals, birds and nature shapes! The snake twined around the stump and the squirrel stand-out being so prominent but, less obviously, there is a parrot, a butterfly, a ladybird and some toadstools whilst, at the peak of the stump, it is topped with a \totem-pole like\ bald eagle. There are also more hidden animals - seek the mice! Full marks to the Leicester City Council's Parks Department for their imagination and foresight. It draws young children like a magnet!!!
