Really nice spot to freedom camp. However, late afternoon some Bogans arrived to stone a wild bird to death and late at night a convoy of 4x4s and pimped out rides turned up to the freedom camping spot and acted strangely (lots of head torches shining around the campervans) for a few hours before leaving in the wee hours. Unfortunately we’ve found that this sort of behaviour is not uncommon in the more remote areas of NZ and this is certainly not the first time we’ve witnessed the stoning of wild bird life - 100% Pure NZ.

Nice quiet park in country setting, older toilets but clean and functional. Has play ground with flying fox and also bbq area with free bbq. Short walk to the quaint settlement of puketapu where the general store also serves as a gas station, you seem much of that anymore. Recommend it as a stop if you are traveling with Children
