The credit of starting the first ever Karate Dojo (class) in Puttur goes to Sediyapu Janardhana Bhat, a well known agriculturist in Puttur in the year 1978. The class is currently run by Shihan Suresh M, who currently hold a 7th Degree Black Belt in Budokan Karate and has dedicated his life and career for the development of karate in Puttur. Suresh joined karate classes at the age of 5 and due to his excellent ability, knowledge and interpersonal skills, he was able to quickly take on the responsibility of leading the dojo as a senior member while he was still in college. Since then, the Puttur Dojo has grown in leaps and bounds under the able leadership of Suresh who has trained over 1000 students of which more than 100 have gone on to receive their Black belts and higher degrees, participated and officiated in several state, national and international level competitions and brought laurels to the dojo. The Puttur dojo has also organised Major Karate tournaments Demonstrations, self defense and safety awareness training and workshops for women, training in other forms of martial arts, and also get togethers and conferences for cultural talent and personality development of the karate practitioners of the institute. Currently The Dojo has sub branches at Uppinangadi, Vivekananda School Puttur, Ambika School Bettampady, and Bangalore and several other places which are run by senior instructors who have been trained by Mr Suresh
Karate dojo run by Renshi Suresh M. Senior instructor of Institute of karate and allied arts Manglore. He holds Black belt 7th Dan in Budokan karate. He is also a Black belt degree holder in Judo. Being an authority in the field of martial arts he has trained hundreds of students from around Puttur dist . His students have excelled in various national and international tournaments.
