We recently adopted an Akita (Garnet) from the Rakki-Inu Akita Rescue. Rachel and Kira were awesome to work with. They both with were very caring, dedicated, and compassionate throughout the process of us adopting our new member of the family. Rachel was great about keeping us informed on the status of our application and availability of Akita's eligible for adoption. Rachel was also excellent in describing the personalities and backgrounds for each of the available Akitas and the do's and don'ts of Akita ownership. On adoption day, Kira was incredible at introducing Garnet to her new family, and ensuring we had all of Garnet's medical history and microchip information. If you are looking to adopt an Akita, I highly recommend Rakki-Inu Akita Rescue!

I can not say enough good about this rescue. They are passionate about what they do. Kira and Rachel are both very knowledgeable on the breed and are willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have, even after you take your new pup home. The application process is a bit lengthy but with GOOD REASON. They want to make sure these dogs are getting placed in the right homes. Our pup Yogi is amazing and we even still take him to have him groomed at Kira’s shop.

Having adopted 3 times from RIAR and fostered numerous others while they were waiting for adoption I have personally seen the unsurpassed dedication of this Rescue. Their devotion to the dogs and the proper placement in adoptive homes comes at significant emotional and financial cost. Over the years several hundred Akita's have been saved and given a second chance due to their untiring and uncompromising efforts. There are simply not enough superlatives to describe this organization.

My husband and I are completely new to the dog world and working with rescues. RIAR is an absolutely stellar place and worked with us to get the right dog for us. We were nervous about finding the dog with the right temperament- so they agreed to let us meet the dog and determine whether she would work for us. And when the first dog didn’t (so energetic!!!) Kira, the owner, asked us about our wants and said she had the perfect dog for us. Kira is available at all times to answer questions (I pester her a lot) and there’s even a support group to better acquaint yourself with other Akita owners. Our sweet girl, Paradise, is a joy and we’re so excited about having her with our family. The support we’ve gotten from RIAR is top matched and we’re thankful to be someone that adopted from them!

Rakki-Inu was amazing in helping us adopt a an Akita. We were first time Akita adopters looking at the height of quarantine adoption craze and their adoption counselor spent a lot of time talking with us. She was very honest and upfront about the breed, the specific dogs, and what they were looking for in potential adopters. Like others have said, their love for the dogs is very evident. They care that these dogs go to good, forever homes which means the process can take a little longer but it is well worth it. And the volunteers are happy to answer questions and provide support even after the dogs have been adopted out. They really are rock stars. We are in love with our sweet, goofy cat/bear/dog/pony. Thank you RIAR!

This rescue gave us our beautiful girl Takeko, and she has been an incredible addition to our lives. We waited a few months for the right dog to come around as we already had a male in the house, and we have two cats. This rescue was incredibly patient, and kept us in mind the whole time. As soon as Takeko came in, our incredible adoption counselor immediately called us to let us know we possibly had a good match. They spent a massive amount of time making sure we had a good fit for our family, and they do the same for every adoption/dog/family. Perfect representation of what good breed specific rescue looks like, and we will undoubtedly be adopting from them again in the future when the time comes! They also made this whole thing work while we were living in NY, and they’re based out of Virginia Beach. Truly an awesome rescue, and awesome people!

We have adopted twice from this rescue and have had a positive experience every time. They screen adopters with a fine tooth comb ensuring these dogs get nothing but the best homes.

After losing my Akita mix 8 yrs before, I knew I was ready for another low key walking partner that would get along well with my 6 yo niece and cat. (Not always an easy fit for an Akita.) In December 2018, I adopted my boy who was prefect - he loves everyone especially kids, ignores the cat, and reminds me when it’s time to walk. About 9 months later, I reached out to the rescue again for the prefect female to add to the family. (Again, a tall order since now the two Akitas must get along as well.) It took almost a year before I got the message that they found the right female for me. It was totally worth the wait! She adds just the right amount of sass to my boy’s calm. It has been wonderful working with RIAR. They are VERY focused on ensuring that the right dog gets placed in the right forever home. They have also answered various breed and dog specific questions to help me ensure that my pets are getting the best care.
