We were locked out of our apartment accidentally. Because it is already 5:30 pm, our leasing office may not respond to maintenance. We decided to call the near locksmith. When we called, the operator said that they “on average” charge 25 dollars for labor and 30 dollars for travel. We think that wow, this is a fair price and decided to get their service. We waited 30 minutes and he showed up, WITHOUT MASK! Then after he looked at our lock, he said this is an old lock and needs to charge 120 dollars in addition to 30 travel charge. We had to accept and ended up with paying 165 dollars, 100 more than their “averaged” 60 dollars. It is not saying that this price is overly high to the extent that it is so unacceptable. Given that it is 7:00 pm now and which can be counted as off-hour service, this price is unexpected but can be explained. But if you told me at first that 60 dollars is your lowest price and prepare me for higher price, I would have had the freedom to check price with other company and wouldn’t have had to be compelled to accept the offer onsite. Good thing is that he opened our lock in 5 minutes and didn’t exceed the promised 20-25 minutes too much. Just a price reference for anyone else who needs this service.
