"Is there such a thing as a good traffic department with helpful and friendly employees?" you may ask yourself. If you're traveling from far thinking Rayton will be an easy day out, think again. It's pretty standard here: employees aren't really helpful and some are downright rude. Nobody seems to know what's going on or where you should go first or start the queue. Nowhere are there any signs, clear or otherwise, telling you what each building is so that you don't waste your time in a long queue. This was my experience at least so you may have a different and hopefully better one. I arrived at 07:00 (to find the queue was already 40 people long). Left around 12:00 for Watloo and, couldn't believe my luck, was successful there. Clear signs and helpful employees are what got me in and out there before they closed for the day. Parking is ample at Rayton since you park on the street next to the centre. And bring an umbrella or even suntan lotion since you'll be queueing in the sun most of the time. Coming from Pretoria on the N4 you'll pass through a tollgate (and again when you get back on the highway) so have some cash on you.

Fantastic experience and service. No queues on both Wednesday afternoons I went. Got my drivers renewed without problems. Smiling staff that are friendly and efficient. Best licences and traffic department I have ever been to.

Extremely rude and arrogant staff. The one bloke told the woman "wait 5 minutes before helping them". And we wonder why the country is in the state it is... Even the car guards are rude. The folks at centurion were a lot more friendly. Don't come here if your blood pressure is high.

Thank you to everybody working at the Rayton Traffic Department offices, from the parking attendant to everybody I talked to. I have just collected my drivers license waiting in the queue for about 15 minutes! I am pleasantly surprised at the friendliness and helpful attitude of all the personnel at the office and would like to commend them for their service - dealing with the public is at its best a challenge as you get to deal with various different personalities, attitudes and needs. I had the same experience when I applied for the license - it took me less than an hour to have all the tests done and forms submitted. I was welcomed in a friendly and professional manner from the parking attendant to each and every person I dealt with. Everybody told me not to bother calling to find out whether the license was done but once again, I was pleasantly surprised when I called the number, was transferred to a call center and a very friendly gentleman handled my query in a professional way and told me the license was available for collection.

Arrogant, useless. It is a fantasy to believe these people actually are there to provide a service. If you think this will be quicker to renew than Centurion or other places. You mistaken. The way people are treated is disgraceful. I would fire the lot of the useless oxygen thieves without an ounce of remorse.

Absolutely disgusted in the way we were treated as if we are trash, standing there waiting for 2 hours just to then hear they dont accept applications for driver's licence not evem for the next year... Its not even December yet and they refuse to work....

Very unorganised! Do not go here if you are in a hurry. Watch out for scamers offering to help! They offer to help and then ask for money for their trouble.

What can I say? Not customer friendly. No indication where to go. Does not help to go with eye test certificate - still have to go and sit in line for finger prints.... and DON'T have ID photos taken at caravan. It is not necessary.
