What a great experience! My daughter has been in Sensei's class for a year now and the discipline she has gained has positively affected her grades and home life. Her confidence levels have increased and she looks forward to every class. Her favorite part of class is the sparring. She's taller them all of the kids in her class so Sensei Bill will have one of the older students from his other classes come in so she not sparing with smaller kids all the time. The best part of the beginner classes is that Sensei Bill has 2 assistant instructors so that the kids get more attention and one on one advice and education.

Over the years, I've trained with many people in different disciplines. This so far has been the best atmosphere to train for many reasons. Aside from the martial art itself, there's a great opportunity to learn a variety of real world skills, including communication, leadership, discipline, and respect. Since becoming a student, I've been given responsibilities and an opportunity to sharpen myself as a leader and a team mate. This is a great place for kids and adults to train in an environment that encourages growth, perseverance, and focus. There's no ego, no "tough guy" mentality, just a fun and immersing experience in the world of Okinawan martial arts.

I highly reccomend Bill. He truly puts his heart and soul into his school and students. He provides quality training and takes his students to the next level. As a child with special needs I trust Bill and his school to be a place where my daughter can grow in confidence, self respect, and skill.

I have 4 sons and they have all been attending Open Call over the past 7 years. We have tried other places just to see if we were missing anything and everywhere else treated my kids like a number. So I guess to the person that posted a negative comment. Everyone has a different style of learning and I would hope that if you feel you need to be rough on someone to teach someone how to be confident and have selfworth that you never teach children. There are all types of kids that wanna learn and some have disabilities and will not respond to your style. Sensei Bill is a wonderful teacher and role model for my boys. Thank you for all you do.

It a great place.Sensei Bill understands that every student is different and learns at their own pace, he also offers private lessons for those that feel like they need more hands on training.

My experience at Open Call was lackluster. Don’t get me wrong, Bill is a nice guy and all, but Martial Arts is about discipline, respect, and honor, not having an easy going teacher. He knows his stuff and all, but his teaching style is all over the place and not organized. There are plenty of students that have high belt levels they clearly don’t deserve, and this is obvious because they can’t spar and don’t know how to apply techniques... techniques they basically haven’t been taught. The Sensei always stressed that you can’t learn Martial Arts from YouTube, but he never taught me or even showed me the Kata that I needed to progress... I learned it from YouTube, but I kept this to myself. The teacher purposefully ’one-ups’ students a lot and performs techniques on students mostly just to show how good he is. We never sparred and there was no discipline and no real progress. The owner is a hard worker just trying to support himself, but the poor structure makes it a bad place to go. I respect that he is a veteran, but I can’t respect him as a Sensei, although I wish I could. Students at Open Call are being given false confidence, and this can be dangerous and have serious real world consequences, especially for smaller or younger individuals. Go somewhere that teaches serious discipline, and is organized.
