Reading Hindu Temple As part of the Reading Hindu Centre, The Temple is a centre for all Hindus from all walks of life. We are located on Whitley Street, a stone’s throw from the town centre and is easily accessible. The Temple is located in a building which is over one hundred years old.
We have a lively congregation and a Pandit who is a singer trained by Shri Anup Jalota. Why not drop in and experience the new prayer hall and Marble Mandap in our Mandir.

This is a short message for our devotees to advise them that we have great pleasure in announcing the re-opening of the Mandir.
We sincerely hope that you are all keeping well and safe and welcome you to the Mandir when
we open our doors once again on Saturday 4th July
Due to the circumstances we are limiting the opening times from 60pm till 80pm
We have had to introduce some restrictions and safeguards in this early period and would ask that you follow the measures that have been put in place.
For Your safety
Please do not come to the temple if you have any of the following:
High temperature
Cough
Diarrhea or vomiting
You are feeling generally unwell
Have experienced any of the above symptoms in the past 7 days
Had contact with persons who have any of the symptoms listed above in the past 7 days
we will be taking a note of your name, your telephone number and email address
this is so that we are able to contact you if needed should a case of contamination occur
your details will be held for 21 days after which they will be safely deleted
Waiting outside
There may be a queue before you enter the building, so we would ask that you can be patient and allow persons to exit and take turns in coming in.
Please be courteous and maintain 2m distances between yourselves and others in the queue.
There are no markings to follow outside but please estimate the distancing and ensure you are not blocking the footpath for the public to pass in both directions.
Bringing Prasad or items for the temple
To maintain safety and avoidance of handling prasad and flowers etc, we will not allow any items into the building for offering purposes.
Prasad will also not be offered to the congregation
Monetary donations can be accepted, however these will need to placed in the donation box in the prayer hall. Receipts for donations cannot currently be written. We do however encourage electronic donations, for details of how to make an electronic donation, please use the link below.
Entering the building
From the entrance door you will see that we have added markings on the floor which will assist you in distancing, and we have retained the 2m spacing which we would ask you to please stick to.
Shoes
The shoe rack has been divided into 4 zones so that up to 4 persons can safely have space to either take off their shoes on entering, or to put them on when leaving.
Washing hands
The wash basin has been divided to two spaces, so please use the two end taps, and wash your hands using the handwash for at least 20 seconds before entering the building
Narrow corridor
We are asking you to not queue within the narrow corridor as this should be a passing area. Please wait for anyone in front to pass or for anyone in the opposite direction to have passed before you go further.
Use of the disabled lift
This is only for the elderly and the disabled
Please alert one of the committee members if you require assistance
One way route
We have restricted the entrance from the temple door as this will be exit only, please do not enter from this door
Please follow the floor marking with arrows directing you to the dining hall
Within the dining hall there is a clear central route leading you to the back stair access to the prayer hall. Please do not stray out of this area and stay within the 2m markings on the floor.
Please follow the route up the stairs maintaining the 2m distances, and enter the Mandir at the top of the stairs near the saints housings.
Within the mandir
Please follow the barriered off route
You will not be able to touch the Murtis or offer any items to the gods.
The Shivling , Navgraha and Oily Hanuman are not to be accessed during this time.
Please wait for persons in front of you to complete their prayers before moving on or past them
Please await your turn and be patient for others to finish before you go further.
Please keep your prayers short to avoid lengthy delays to others.
Exiting the mandir
Please take the stairs down to the lobby whilst maintaining the 2m distancing and allow others to pass within the narrow corridor.
Please allow others to finish in the shoe area before going on to leave the building.
Arti and Pujas
During this time, and as we are not allowed to congregate, Anilji will perform the Aarti upon the closure of the mandir, and without the congregation present.
Please ensure you leave the building in good time to allow Anilji to perform the aarti
