In 1861 Julius Sturgis discovered how to make crisp pretzels and founded the first commercial pretzel bakery in America. 150 years have passed filled with the blessings of family and the growth of the pretzel industry. Those early years were filled with long hours, hard work and the struggle to keep a business alive. Our Sturgis children started early, not only sharing the work load but also developing a love and respect for pretzel baking. They in turn continued to establish and keep their companies growing over six generations without a pause. The pretzel recipes have been nourished as well for all those years. Today we respect that wonderful experience by continuing to combine our 150 years of baking knowledge with modern equipment advances. Our days can still be long and hard, but that does not sway us from our commitment to baking the best pretzels. We proudly and with gratitude look back at our beginnings.
