The North of England Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association (NERFCA) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation with the responsibility of advising and assisting the Defence Council on issues concerning reservists and cadets in our region. We aim to stay at the heart of the local community whilst providing an understanding of the roles and needs of the Armed Forces in general and the Volunteer Reserves and Cadet Forces in particular, illustrating the contribution that these Forces make to the nation and the well-being of its citizens. This is achieved by focusing on 3 deliverable pillars; 1. Reserves & Cadets – we work with the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserves and Cadets, providing recruitment support and promote the opportunities and benefits of volunteer service. This includes the Cadet Expansion Programme, recruiting Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, engaging with supportive employers of reserves or cadet instructors and assisting the Regional Brigade in its delivery of youth development. 2. Employer Engagement – we engage with employers to promote the benefits of working with Reserves and Cadets. Through Defence Relationship Management we facilitate engagement between the Armed Forces and employers who want to find out how they can support our Reserve Forces or who have reservists among their workforce. We encourage employers to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and celebrate employers with the strongest commitment to the Reserve Forces with an Employer Recognition Scheme Award. 3. Estates – we manage over 250 buildings across 130 sites to support activities of Army and Naval Reserves and Army & Air Cadet Forces ensuring that they are in good condition, fit for purpose and secure. We also commission new buildings to meet the evolving needs of our Reserves and Cadets. Our mission is to be an enduring and essential pillar in the delivery of support for the well-being of the Reserves and Cadets and, through our effectiveness and our position in the North of England region, to be the independent body that represents their interests and promotes understanding between the Armed Forces and civil society.
