What a fabulous find this place is !! Went last night for the first time and it will now be a regular place to go and eat. Was made to feel so welcome. Great choice of food and drinks. We all enjoyed our meals which is unusual for us 4. Cnt fault anything at all.

We visited The Birches on Saturday the 2nd of July a party of 19 of us after a long days fishing. We were met by the Land Lady and was made very welcome from the moment we stepped into the building. The food was one of the best meals myself and my colleagues have had on one of our trips. The staff were all very good st there jobs. The chef needs a medal for getting all the meals out together and of a very high standard. Not one complaint from any one of our group . Well done and thanks.
New owners and it's getting back to the place we used to love to come. Only limited food menu on Mon/Tues but that's good enough when we were offered steak and chips and chicken nuggets for our son!! Glad we gave it another go, lovely couple that now run it. Let's hope it gets back to "the place to be" that it once was
Three of us came here tonight (Thursday) for a meal, first time here and we thought it was fantastic, the home made soup was lovely, the meals were lovely and the staff roana and Katie Were very welcoming and friendly. Drinks were very cheap too. The decoration of the place is outstanding. Been to the sister pub and restaurant but much sooner prefer this one. Will Def.return soon.
Wonderful local family run pub. Service and manner is top notch. Food is consistently great. Good choice of drinks, and a really varied layout and decor. Great with children too. One of the best pub/eateries in Retford.
Poor attitude towards staff with little to no respect for people who work behind the scenes of making your meals and time here pleasant. The landlord swears left , right and centre in-front of small children and they fire staff like no tomorrow. Staff are made to stay for long shifts even if nobody comes into the place itself. Both owners are very poor qualified people , with the landlady doing disgusting things within the kitchen that nobody is aloud to mention. Many customers have complained about horrible food and mix up of orders.
Found this through Google while staying in The North. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it is well worth venturing in. We had the Sunday carvery, which was 7 each, with a go large option for a quid more. The standard had a sizable portion of meat, and a good selection of trimmings and vegetables, with three potato options. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. The beer was pleasant. We shall be returning when in the area again.
