Amazing place with a great Rabbi.

Since Abraham, Jews have engaged in the process of embracing the guest and welcoming the traveler. Or Ami emulates Abraham’s values of hospitality and welcoming by going beyond Shalom. Or Ami has a new rabbi who is extremely musical, passionate about social justice, and a warm and caring person. The religious school has some amazingly creative and talented teachers who go the extra mile to get their kids to love being Jewish! Love it!

This is a great Reform Jewish community that's got something for every age group and level of Jewish-ness. It's very family friendly (not to mention welcoming to the LGBT community!), with weekly Shabbat services and youth Sunday school (it's a great Jewish education with great activities, lessons, and electives), and a high school youth group that's really fun for everyone. There's much more Or Ami offers, this is just a selection of what I've experienced in my time here. I've been a member with my family since I was a kid, and though our rabbi changed several years ago, I can't remember a time without her because she brings a spark of life here that the community has definitely improved with. My family has tried other synagogues in the Richmond area in the past, and I can say that nothing matches up to the family you'll find here. (having a Pokemon gym doesn't hurt either!)

The previous Rabbi was a decent, intelligent, well spoken, good natured fellow. Things changed there, but not for the better. Decency went right out the window.
