Their location is convenient & fronts Broad St. Their best story was uncommon & interesting. Out of the box thinking & independent story decisions impress. Their story on Richmond's Chief of Police, Marine Alfred Durham, was excellent. Few knew based on local coverage, that Chief Durham created a nationally recognized homicide clearance rate & team. There was no complacency on his police force & he defined excellence by pushing forth officer call in when behaviors seen did not represent the force well. Accountability & transparency was present in the Chief's decisions & he carried his model from D.C. down to Richmond. Instead of kids winding up in jail for behavior problems, they could enter a writing & education track. R.M. wrote a fine disclosure story on a humble man, Marine Alfred Durham, whom many did not know. He cared about the kids in Richmond, as much as the adults who fell into hard ways & hard times. Who knew he visited the jail & talked to the prisoners. One prisoner quoted him, " You may have not had a real friend before, but you have one now. Do better because you can. Look up. A gang never sees forward & never goes anywhere but down." Without stories like this, the public is left in the dark. RM is also home to Harry Kollatz Jr. He once was on WCVE's Golden Age of Radio Returns.
