Melbury B&B could be lovely. However, it is seriously let down by an owner that has lost interest in the place and does the absolute minimum. We didn't have our beds made, towels changed or room cleaned for the four nights that we stayed there. We arrived to find a pile of washing (clean, we hoped!) on our beds. Bed linen and towels were all a uniform grey colour, and had obviously been around for a decade or more. The milk went off during our stay. The cups in the rooms stuck to the tray that they were placed on and I hate to think how long the coffee and tea bags had been in their little pots. The jam pot on the breakfast table contained more mould than jam. There was always a pile of unwashed dishes in the kitchen where we had breakfast, and the lipstick I had left on my orange juice glass at breakfast the day before appeared on my glass the next day. We were subject to the 'doors, lights and locks' lecture of the reviewer below, and on night 2, Jennie left a pot of boiling turkey bones on the stove which boiled dry and left the whole place reeking of a mixture of cabbage and curry smells which didn't leave the place for another two days. We didn't check whether there was a working smoke alarm in the place, but nothing went off while we were there and it should have done! All in all a good location, but money for old rope and the whole place needs a thorough clean and refurb and an owner who actually wants recommendations and repeat business.
