We kept our Brewer 44 sloop at JBW for two months getting a complete refit. We couldn't be happier. They replaced our engine, stripped the bottom to gelcoat and repainted with Coppercoat, sprayed the topsides with Alwgrip, painted the nonskid with Kiwigrip, replaced thru hulls, added lightning protection, installed a water maker and a dozen other items. She looks better than new. They did a fast and efficient job all with a smile. The boatyard is inland, so you have to pay for it to be hauled to the yard, but their rates are lower than average so for a large project its worth the cost.

Our one-week sailing charter was a great experience. The JBW charter staff was very helpful and great to work with. Between their website and advance paperwork, they made sure we had all the information needed to prepare well for the trip. The yacht was clean and in good working order. The checkout and return both went smoothly.

For a boat owner, Johanson Boatworks is an ideal yard for storage and or maintenance. Owners can do as much (or little) of the work on their boat as they wish and the Peter's crew will do the rest. If you get stuck on a project, you can get good advice as to how to proceed, and if you need help the hourly rates are the most reasonable in the area. Located about 5 miles from the ocean may sund like a bad thing, but it is warmer inland in the spring during comissioning.

Incompetent charter operator. I was returning from my first charter out of this base, cautiously approaching after failing to raise them on the radio or by cell phone. Their personnel on shore waved me directly onto a rock and then they charged me for the damage. Their briefing did not say anything about a small channel parallel to the shore, which is apparently the only way to get safely in or out of their base at low tide.

Excellent fiberglass repair and new awlgrip on my damaged hull.
