Great place to Work and in your free time you can pack loads in. The Sun shines every day. Highly recommended

Never would have believed I would miss this place as much as I do. Nicest, friendliest people anywhere on earth. Scenery one could never see anywhere else. Great place to unplug from the world. Be sure to have a beer or three at two boats club.

Spent several months in ASI from February 1983 to October 1983. Fabulous island.

Did 2 tours while working at NASA tracking facility at Devil's Ashpit between February 1974 and July of 1979. Still have the occasional Ascension nightmare. Anyone else?

Made many flights in an Air Force cargo jet from US to Ascension in support of the NASA operation there. Climbed the cone near the base several times, and did Green Mountain by foot and by car. Loved to think that this is a "new" island having formed recently on the geologic scale. Fascinating place. but my mom was always scared we would not find it and ditch at sea---it IS very isolated.

Ignore the one star review by the armchair tourist J. Mac Jordan, by his own admission he's never been there. You can visit this Island as a tourist, BUT it is a military base without fences, as such your entry application can be refused if you are not of good character or are considered to be a security risk. Yes the airport may not have the facilities many are accustomed to, it's not a commercial airport, it's a transit/refueling facility for military chartered aircraft which permits limited civilian tourist capacity. It's a great place to visit especially if you dive or fish. For those who don't it's also steeped in history with many remnants of Victorian times and there are numerous walks to partake in (Ascension Island Letterbox Walks). Pick the right time of year and you can witness nesting sea birds or the annual Green Turtle nesting season. I recommend you visit.

Great times to be had, wonderful atmosphere and beautiful weather! Not a tourism location, this is a working island. However it is steeped in history and filled with wildlife at every turn. If you're ever lucky enough to come here don't stay in your room, get some SPF on and roll in it, the island soaks into you more than the humidity does. Endemic species, post-colonialism, space research, marine biology it's all here in this tiny space.
