A must-visit place for little rockhounders. There is a dirt road that leads to the top, and we did fine in a minivan. How we found ours... I wandered down the mountain on the side towards the mine. Sat next to a tree and starting inspecting the surface rocks. Found plenty and no need to dig. They are little dark spots in the rocks - look for the mini geodes!

Such a fun family activity. The girls loved treasure hunting.

It was an adventure getting there thru the mud in a mini van. We had a blast digging and busting rocks. Found a few small garnets :-D

Fun visit! Bring a shovel and something to break rock with.

Quite a long dirt road to get to the hill but once you get there, it's worth it. Amazing views of the surrounding valleys and the copper mine. You can still find garnets if you go further around the mountain which is pretty cool. You'll need at least a hammer and chisel. Also, bring water, there are restrooms at the top and a picnic area, but it gets hot walking around.

It can take awhile to figure out where on the hill and how to look for them, so be patient and persistent. We've found some more buried, but a lot were found by sifting through the surface dirt and rocks on the hillside. At first they look pretty spherical and a little darker than the pink stone. Rub away the dirt to see if it's a garnet! A spray bottle of water and cloth would be handy. They're so pretty.

Tent camping, limited spaces, but great views. Road a little tricky going up/down, would be a real PITA if rain/soaked on. Terrific Views of the valley and the mining at south. Only saw 2-3 tent sites so limited and parking is just straight in. One-holer there.

Awesome experience. Found this beauty after only a couple hours of looking... I did minimal digging and found this laying out exposed.
