This family brewery is located in an atmospheric old post town that has completely escaped being ruined by tourism. Even on a weekend in cherry blossom season we were the only ones visiting. The parking area is inside the gate and only accommodates a couple of cars at a time. A man greeted us and invited us to view the various collections they had -- the gallery of local art was actually a little interesting, and had paintings by the previous head of the brewery. As for tasting, it was self-serve of about 5 varieties -- the Tateshinayama Oyoshino I particularly liked, and it is certified produced with all ingredients from Nagano. Makes for part of a nice excursion deep into the Japanese countryside.

明鏡止水で有名な蔵です。 が、蔵のショップでは明鏡止水は取り扱っていません。 なんとかして、買えるようにしてくれると嬉しいのですが。 (佐久平の清水屋さんを案内されます。品揃え豊富でいい酒屋さんですが、やっぱり酒蔵で味見して買いたいな。) 代わりに、なかなかお目にかかれない「大吉野」という昔からの銘柄や、「善光寺秘蔵酒」が試飲、購入できます。 「大吉野」は昔ながらのどっしりしたコメの風味がする酒です。 中でも気に入ったのは「大吉野 蓼科山」です。 立科の水と米(美山錦)で作ったそうで、 重すぎず、酸味と旨味のバランスが良く、和食や寿司(できれば赤酢の舎利で！)によく合いそうな旨味あふれる酒です。
駐車スペースあり。明鏡止水を目当てで来るとここでは販売していないので、佐久平駅近くの酒屋さんを案内してくれます。 大吉野の試飲可。
歩いてすぐの場所にある武重酒造と比べるとわかります。こちらの方があまり訪れている方が少ないように感じます。資料館にも入りましたが、武重酒造と比べるとあまりきれいに展示されているとは思えないです。 明鏡止水美味しいんですけどね。長野県内でも限られたお店でしか買えないお酒みたいですよ。
