December 26 update. Seems once inside you can shop without wearing a mask and security won't say anything. Sad for a place around the corner from a covid hospirahospital.

If you want a one stop food source, this is a good choice. The Walmart at the shopping has a better selection. Street markets are still a better source for most fruits and vegetables.

For visitors accustomed to the "real" Walmart hypermarkets, e.g., those in North America, the "hipermercado" appellation on this store is deceptive. Be aware that Walmart Barra is simply a large supermarket. It does not have other departments that would elevate it to the hypermarket class of stores. But, if you are staying near the Farol da Barra and need groceries, this would be a supermarket to check out.

Should improve their stock and variety. Though the staff was helpful the limited variety disappoints you. Also the time i visited the washroom/lavatory was locked, and the staff was unaware of whereabouts of the key.
