Please do not eat here. I have been going here my whole life, but have recently decided to stop going because it has gotten really bad. The place has roaches, mice, and the owners know about it and do nothing.. or at least not enough. As if the building isn't run down enough, we still ate here because we love the waitresses and the food is decent most of the time. But, after seeing a dead mouse by the bathroom door, roaches in the bathroom and receiving a plate of food with a roach on it, I refuse to eat here again. I told the owner/cashier and all she said was "sorry it must have been hiding somewhere on the lettuce". I cannot support a place that knows they have a problem and refuse to address it while still serving paying customers this food. I am also not the only person who left that day due to seeing a roach on their food. I only gave them two stars because I use to love it here and have many memories here growing up.

Waitress reads our minds. Very friendly, great service. Food cooked to order. Great place for a quick lunch while shopping, or a nice quiet relaxing dinner.

My family has been going to this restaurant for over 30 years. The food is amazing and very affordable. The next time you want a hamburger and french fries, go here instead of the fast food place next door.
Great beef! The fries there are really good, hamburger was really good as well. The beef is delicious. Prices are cheap and affordable for a single person or a family. Sevice was quick and prompt. 5 stars
Sam and Steve's is Newport News history. My family has eaten here as far back as I can remember. Leave pretentiousness at the door and you will likely be satisfied by the incredibly affordable prices, friendly staff, and consistently good food. The building and general atmosphere are definitely dated but the place has great 90's character that will satisfy most down-to-earth folk. For families that are low on cash, this place should be in your arsenal; consistently a great value.
Have not been here in years. Not much has changed, like going back in time. Place was not busy, server was very nice and attentive. Food was prompt and quite good.
The place sucks. I wouldn't recommend anyone eat there. The man that cooks the food always says that they don't have any of this or that and he doesn't have the best attitude. Smells like old people in there and I'm not sure if he's a clean person or not because I got there right when they opened up and the guy was like wiping his hands on his shirt and his shirt had stains on it. I thought that was disgusting for him to have stained shirt and just opened up for the day.
