Sad to say but this is not the iconic restaurant that it once was. They have attempted to create the atmosphere but fail to provide the atmosphere that once defined the restaurant. It’s been many years since they had the beautiful birds and atmosphere that was defined by the staff many that had been working at the restaurant for years. The Margaritas are no longer a top quality are would have rather had taco cabana drink over what was served. The food that was once a favorite is good but not near the quality that it was. The experience feels like a shadow of the great restaurant that was a destination restaurant of many high profile individuals. I must say that I have been a patron since this place opened and seen the evolution. Now it has morphed into an establishment that plays off the golden years and unlike other establishment the change of ownership did not have a vision that included keeping the atmosphere that makes it a true destination you could expect to see the regular high profile patrons. Still would recommend as a place to visit but more to see the golden years of a once glorious place. The food is good but over priced and your likely to get something just as good at the whole in the wall down the street. It feels more like a tourist trap with pushy overpriced food, mariachi, and drinks. If you have out of town guests take them but also take them to market square and then ask them to review both. Hands down every guest that we taken years ago and again recently provides the same feedback included in my review. This is not to say it’s not a great place it’s just not the same place. It is definitely much better cared for and the renovations and expansion is amazing. Please patronize the restaurant as it has continued to be wonderful I’m just being honest about then and now.

The original! We absolutely love coming here. I have been coming here with my mom for over 25 years and it is just as awesome now as it was the first time we came. The mariachis are magnifico, the food is awesome, and the staff are excellent. Come ready with a tip for the mariachis and ready with your favorite Spanish song to request...we recommend Guantanamera!

My husband and I booked our son and daughter in laws rehearsal dinner here. The bride was expecting 35 people to come, but only 21 came. When the waitress informed us, we were prepared to have to pay for the full amount of people, we just asked if we count have 8 plates to go. Several people were guests to San Antonio, and want to snack on it later. We were told that the manager said no. This was in mid December, I understand that Covid has made a huge impact on this industry. But if you are charging someone for the meal they should be able to take it home. The bill for the food alone was over 1000. Several party guests were drinking alcohol, for which they paid for. I think that the restaurant did very well that night, considering the timing. I don't see how this is considered honest business by any means.

I'm sad to say it was my first bad experience in 36 years of being a customer and this being my number one all-time favorite Mexican restaurant. We made a special trip from Houston on my birthday just to eat here. The margaritas that were always the best anywhere were not only different, but not even good. I tried three different ones and they were all disappointing. The food was delicious, but the service was poor. Food was served to us with no flatware to eat with. On three occasions I had to get up from the table and find a server because he wasn't checking back on us in a timely manner. My enchiladas were barely warm. When I ordered my long time favorite desert, the waiter came back to tell me they were out of it. I hate to complain about so many things when this has been a place that I've loved for a very long time. If my expectations are high, it's because they are based on what I've experienced there in the past.... Every time in the past. I sincerely hope that you will address and correct these issues. I want my La Fogata back!

It was a pleasant atmosphere! The waiter was very attentive and the food was good. I only would've preferred to have other drinks sold there rather than just margaritas and beer. It can get loud if the mariachis when the mariachis are playing, but again, overall pleasant place to eat at.
