Superb clinician and wonderful guy. I am a patient with a complex autoimmune disease who underwent a heart & double lung transplant in 2016. Dr. Hays oversaw my care every moment of my 96 days in the ICU at UCSF while I waited for available organs, and has taken care of my follow-up treatment for the past three years. I cannot say enough about his concern, attention to every clinical detail (and there were plenty of critical moments), astute thinking and decision making, patience in explaining every situation, true compassion and lovely bedside manner. I’m now very spoiled. No other MD comes close, and believe me, I see a lot of physicians. And I travel from Chicago to San Francisco to see him. I highly recommend Dr. Hays for the best pulmonary care in the country.
