Good food, cheerful staff. Fish heavy menu with a southern influence. We all enjoyed our pasta dishes. Puddings were okay. Happy to go back if we end up in the area at the right time

We had a few demands, good food, close to the highway (we were on our way home to Germany) and it had (of course) to be open at lunch time. A quick look into the map to verify our location and a second one in our holy book for food lovers (osterie d'Italia) and we reprogrammed Waze to show us the shortest route to Via Teofilo Folengo 37 in San Giorgio, a few minutes outside Mantova. We would have never expected a restaurant in such a rural area and we would have never found it either. Here we found a young team who have a passion for food and service. The menu contains local dishes from the region, such as pice with polenta (heaven) and selective ones from all over italy. I assume that the chef has his roots in Sicily, quite a few dishes came from the south including their famous cannoli for dessert. The wine menu is good, we went for a glass of local sparkling red wine (Lambrusco) which was the right setting for our meal. If you are not into wine, the Osteria hosts the \Cirolo del Luppolo\ and provides over 50 different kind of beer. just ask for it. Only the dessert was not really our best choice, but that was my fault. I decided against the cannoli and for a tortino made from dark chocolate. That was too much and heavy (not that the cannoli make you feel lighter), but it did not spoil the overall experience. Next time you are on E45 and pass Mantova, check if you feel hungry. The short detour might be worth your while.
