When you visit Santa Monica, your trip will not be complete without visiting the Shotgun House, which houses the Santa Monica Conservancy. This is one of the last shotgun homes in Santa Monica that was preserved. There are amazing photographs in this exhibit that give you an idea of what life was like in the early days of the community. The amazing docents take the time to engage the visitors making your visit even more meaningful. Even though the shotgun house is closed temporarily to visitors, I believe that they have recently started virtual tours. Check the website to confirm this information.

Their walking tours are incredibly interesting and educational! After having visited Santa Monica a couple of times I joined one of their Saturday walking tours and I have to say I experienced Santa Monica from a completely different point of view. I've always loved the place but learning so much about its (in terms of years relatively short) history and opening my view up to the incredible mix of architecture allowed me to understand it in much more depth - and with so many funny and intersting details to share with others. Our guide encouraged us to "look up more" and this advise has not only deepened my love for Santa Monica, it has also impacted the way I travel and walk around cities. Thanks for a wonderful experience! Highly recommended for anyone visiting (or in fact living in) Santa Monica.
