Santa Pola fortress is impressive and worth the visit. While it's not incredibly huge, it is very well maintained. Dating from the mid 1500s, the fortress today is nestled within modern downtown Santa Palo, which both adds to and diminishes the historical feel of the site. The fortress is surrounded by a car park and shops, making it rather hard to get a less cluttered look at the place. But the fortress has survived quite well, and the surroundings here illustrate that quite well.

A really nice Castillo right in the centre of town. It’s a very basic rectangular structure with really thick walls and a massive open space in the middle. They’ve made a museum in one corner that you have to pay to go in. There’s a chapel in another corner and an exhibition centre in another. So plenty to look at although it only occupies a couple of hours at best.
