On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am pleased to invite you to join us for the 8th International Symposium of Emerging and Re-Emerging Pig Diseases to be held in Santiago, Chile from June 23-26, 2019 at CasaPiedra Conference Center. “Knowledge and health towards productivity” will be the central theme of the scientific program. To undertake the sanitary and productive challenges of tomorrow, as professionals of the swine industry, we have to prepare today with the right level of knowledge and tools, that will enable us to anticipate the emergence and re-emergence of diseases and control outbreaks in a timely and cost-effective manner. A panel of world class speakers will tackle the pathogens of major importance for our sector, among them: PRRS, PCV2, PEDv, SIV, FMD, CSF, ASF, Mycoplasmas, as well as new respiratory and enteric agents. Sharing experiences, field-oriented research and solutions representative of different countries and realities will be one of the highlights of our exchange. Beyond the discussion on specific diseases, we foresee that this meeting will represent a convergence point for multiple industry levels, government agencies, veterinary practitioners, researchers, academics, producers and commercial partners, all will play a role in the success of the activity and the impact of subsequent steps that can contribute to take our industry to the next level of understanding and readiness in the face of a very complex network of interconnected animal movement and international pork trade. We anticipate attendance of over 1,000 pig industry representatives from all corners of the world. Camaraderie and sharing expertise with colleagues will be actively pursued and will most likely represent as much value for our guests than that of the scientific agenda. Santiago is the capital city of Chile; its cultural importance and historic centers will be part of the attractiveness beyond the world class conference thematic we are preparing for you....
