If you are in Sapporo it’s worth visiting the beer museum. It’s not an active brewery (like I mistakenly thought) just a museum, restaurants, and gift shop. The tour they offer tends to fill up so making a reservation is a good idea. There are 2 types of tours a guided “premium” tour and one where you just walk through the museum. The premium offers a tour guide (Japanese only), a short film about Sapporo Beer’s creation and early history, and some free beers at the end of the tour (pictures included). One high-point is that you are given a glass of beer that you can only get from the museum tour. It is made the same way as Sapporo beer used to made; in a more traditional German style. I didn’t time the tour but it is short. Start to finish it was roughly 20-30 mins. It is interesting to see everything they have but I have been on more impactful beer tours. There was very limited English guidance during the tour (none spoken and only subtitles to displays, no explanations) so have someone to help you or strong Japanese ability. However, it seemed like there was supposed to be English translations at each picture but when I went the areas for them were empty. I didn’t get a chance to eat at the restaurants but they looked good. The gift shop is small but there is a nice selection of shirts, beers, and other gifts.

Must visit place in Hokkaido! Japan’s only museum dedicated to beer, which explores the long history of Sapporo Beer (since 1876). Star Hall(paid tasting corner): I highly recommend to go for the \three drink tasting set\. One of which is Hokkaido exclusive. Museum shop for exclusive Sapporo Beer merchandise. It has three restaurants (I guess prior reservation is required).

Great place to visit to learn not only about the history of beer production in Japan, but also about the pioneers who helped settle Hokkaido. You can see some of the equipment used in beer manufacturing, see old photographs and see how the Sapporo logo and bottle have changed over the decades. Because of the pandemic, I think, they don't have the English guidebooks that they normally have set up, so you might not be able to gain much information if you don't speak Japanese. At the end of the self-guided tour, you can taste a variety of beers that are only available at this facility.

Excellent place to visit. Sapporo is not one of my favourite beers but after a visit to the distillery I may just start getting their black version which was good. After the visit to the museum we went to their lilac restaurant and ordered the all you can drink and eat option. Usually not a fan of lamb (the main meat) this was excellent even the side dishes and the whiskey included were good. All around great experience.
