If you are considering a Van Veghten or Union Modular home, I would start by having your attorney research the current lawsuit against Shawn and his company for alleged fraud and other very serious issues relating to a house that he built in the Saratoga area. It sounds a lot like my current experience with him and unfortunately I needed to also get a litigator involved. It’s heartbreaking to see what his customers in the suit have endured and it’s even more heartbreaking that I am dealing with a similar Van Veghten experience too. My attorney is alleging fraud, breach of contract and a number of other allegations as well. The bottom line is almost a year after we started working with Shawn, my foundation is not complete. The modular house has been sitting on trailers for months and shawn has a truckload of my life savings. Shawn made building our “Dream Home” nothing but torture. The project has been plagued by constant excuses and false information from Shawn and his team. A contractor that Shawn engaged called me because he couldn’t believe the way the construction was being run and how much I had been taken advantage of by Shawn. He also had difficulty in getting paid by Shawn and wanted to see if I would pay him directly in the future. Don’t put your life savings in his hands – you very well may wind up with huge legal fees like I’m preparing for and reeling to salvage your dream – just to right Shawn’s wrongs. I urge you to ask your attorney to see the law suit that’s been filed against him and realize that I’m experiencing much of the same. I’m confident you’ll see the light and go to another builder --unless Shawn can sweet talk you like he did me.

Shawn Vanveghten took hundreds of thousands of dollars from me and hasn’t completed my home in the contracted time. He hasn’t done any work on my home at all in months. The incomplete work that was performed in the beginning was done incorrectly causing flooding and septic issues The latter of the two, he lied to me about by blaming the town and has billed me for approx. 17,000 over contract price. The fact that he didn’t seal the home (he never put the siding on or finished shingling the roof) since it was set in the fall of 2017 (it’s now 7/2018) has caused moisture and rot. I received a notice of intent to file a lien because he didn’t pay his bill. When he was notified of this he promised to pay it and it had to be brought to his attention again weeks later. Yes. I had work with his subcontractors who he didn’t pay in order to get them paid. The foundation is cracked from top to bottom. The floors are warped. The list is so extensive... it’s insane. Shawn Vanveghten operates under the name Union Modular Homes and Vanveghten Construction. Bottom line is this. Save yourself.
