Das heutige Rathaus wurde 1394/95 als Kaufhaus erbaut. Seit 1409 wurde es dann bis heute als Rathaus genutzt. Leider ist das wegen der Ladengeschäfte im Erdgeschoss nicht auf den ersten Blick zu erkennen. An der Fassade ist ein Schaffhausener Bock (Widder) angebracht, der das Wappentier von Schaffhausen ist. Dass ist aber nur eine Kopie, das Original von 1515 ist im Museum zu Allerheiligen in der Klosterstrasse 16 ausgestellt.
