科学技術館 Science Museum - Great for children (and 'older' children too). Many hands on and interactive exhibits demonstrating concepts of all scientific disciplines. I am a retired geologist and worked for a tunnel boring machine manufacturer. I was amazed to see a display dedicated to what I thought were obscure tools to build sewers and mass transportation. It can be crowded and noisy (?) but everyone is having fun and learning at the same time. I was taken too with some of the bicycles on display. There was a block and tackle display where with some work, a small yellow taxi can be lifted into the air. There was a nice drawing (a bit faint) o stairs running up through an old Japanese town (with a manga running around the display). Engaging optical displays and even the floor was eye catching. Photography is permitted and if something perplexes you, wait for a bit and some child will come over and unconsciously demonstrate for you. Multiple floors. Takes at least a couple of hours to do it all.

Illustrated motor demos was interesting. You can use a car as well in a simulation environment. Friendly for kids, there are game areas and competitions

I have an emotional attachment to this museum ever since my very first elementary school trip back in the 1970s. It (and the entire surrounding area) since became a "playground" for us kids growing up in the neighborhood. Both very educational and entertaining at once. They used to hold large seasonal events and festivities on the premises for all to enjoy & participate in. A must visit for gluttons for knowledge & information (even if you don't speak or understand any Japanese.)

Very nice and informative place to be with kids. * First of all the entry fee was so cheap in Tokyo standards for the service. It was 800/- for adults and 400/- for kids roughly. * They have display of quite a lot of science and technology organized systematically. * The planetarium show explains quite a lot about solar system, stars, constellations, galaxies, galaxy structures and universe. There is no special fee to attend the show which was quite amazing. * There are scientific experiments demonstrated at various places. The facility is located very close to imperial palace and near to the art museum too. In short I strongly recommend you guys to make a visit. NB. - Try to use public transport as it’s in the center of city, parking can be quite expensive and at times you may find difficulties to get a parking lot in a busy day. - Explanation in English language was very limited. So, you may need to have reasonably good skill in Japanese to enjoy the place full. But there are shows and sections that are self explanatory by nature which is still worth for folks who don’t have great Japanese proficiency.

I had a fun time at this museum. Although please be aware everything is written in Japanese. You can still enjoy the interactive things they have here. The first floors (2-4) are mostly for children and young people people. Therefore I enjoyed the 5th floor much more as an adult. I would recommend not eating in the cafeteria as the food is very average and expensive. There is a small cafe instead however where the food looks much better. I think also the gift shop and foyer area could look more attractive to customers. The downstairs looks quite run down.

Good for kids but not much english to explain on each exhibition.

A very interactive kid's museum, similiar to The Exploratorium in San Francisco (though this museum isnt as large as The Exploratorium). They have 4 total floors (2-5), with themes split up between the floors. We found the 5th floor the most interesting. There is plenty of space for "rest areas", probably to accommodate school classroom trips. There is a very small food room that sells basic japanese food and drinks, as well as cup noodles, snacks, and desserts. Bathrooms on every floor, with baby bathrooms as well. A cool place to check out with kids. My 3 year old loved it, but I am not sure if it have much revisiting quality to it.

Kids really enjoy this place. Wish there was English buttons so kids can actually learn in the process. Everything is in Japanese & they only take cash. Perfect for rainy days.
