-There is an interesting permanent exhibition with many maps and surveying devices. You can understand the history and evolution of surveying in Japan. Some maps and machines are very old and classy. Not too crowded. However, the most of explanation boards is in Japanese, rarely English presented and no tour guides.

The Science Museum of Map and Survey is a museum in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan that is dedicated to mapping and surveying. The museum was the first of its kind in Japan when it was opened by the Geographical Survey Institute of Japan in June 1996.

2021年2月6日に利用。 受付は必要だが、入場無料。 どんなものかと興味本意で訪れたが、これが結構楽しめた。 行った時期によって変わるだろうが、展示物を見ているだけで直ぐに時間が過ぎていく。 ぜひとも外にある地球儀っぽい山場に乗って記念撮影をどうぞ。
中身が濃い 2/21訪問。コロナ、感染地域からの訪問はご遠慮下さいとの注意書きあり。無料であるが、地図好きな人間には堪らないほどの濃い内容。1時間での退館にご協力くださいとのことだが、かなり飛ばして見たが若干オーバーしてしまった。地形マニアは一度は見るべき施設だと思う。
