Sendai, Japan

Worth the walk from the centre of town. Be wary if you walk in the summer, as there is little shade. But with plenty of vending machines, it's a safe enough endeavor. The sights of the city are fantastic, and completely free. The statue itself is a replica, made from a cast from the original statue. I believe the original was melted down during wartime.

An amazing historical site that also shows an excellent view of the Sendai city
This is a must for history buffs of the Japanese feudal era. This is the statue of Masamune \Dokugan-Ryu\ Date, the famous feudal lord sorting atop his horse. On addition, the statue is located adjacent to the pretty and scenic site of the former Sendai/Aoba Castle located on a hill that overlooks the City of Sendai. On the day we visited, there was a gentleman in full gear of a samurai warrior who demonstrated some sword fighting techniques and answered questions regarding a samurai's life during feudal times.
A little flat and not enough castle but has some good city views
The view of Sendai City from this place is great, a quiet place and since its still winter not much greeny scenery. All in all the view is good but I didn’t aquire much about who is Date Masamune, sorry ‘bout that
