“Massive Architecture” Shanghai art museum also known as Shanghai expo pavilion, which is also one of the major tourist attractions. During the world expo of 2010 it was one of the most attractive pavilions among the lot. After the completion of the expo it was converted into Shanghai art museum. The architecture of the building represents a king’s crown during the early ages of China. There is no entry fee; however they give you a card at the entrance to pass through the electronic gate. The building is huge and stands out compared to other usual building constructions. I took an elevator to reach the top floor where they have displayed the history of China in different stages with elegant photography. The whole building is in red, from inside & outside. Red is the national color of China and is also considered as the color of good luck. Each floor has a different kind of art display but I felt that the major display of photography was undoubtably of their greatest modern ruler Chairman Mao. There are some places inside the museum where you need to buy a ticket to enter. I didn’t opt for such options and went around all the freely accessible areas before exiting the museum. Most of the buildings constructed for expo have been converted into something else, like shopping centers, restaurants, etc., however there are some which are still empty and has been closed for many years with no utilization at all.

Very interesting building, mixing contemporary with traditional Chinese references. The entrance is through the middle of the building by a huge escalator, which is quite unusual. Unfortunately, the red beams do not extend into or have any presence once inside, making it look just as decoration. The exhibitions were good (when I went, at least).

This is the place which is not crowded in China. However, I still recommended you to visit other more historical place than here.

If you only have one day in Shanghai, go to China Pavillon to see the amazing "Along the River During the Qingming Festival". It captures the daily life of People and landscape of china a thousand years ago.

The animated painting on the top floor is really cool! The building is also beautiful but I was not really impressed by the art collection. Still, nice place.

Very interesting building turned in to art museum. I don't have much knowledge about art but I enjoyed paintings there nevertheless. if you don't have much time in Shanghai you can skip this one actually.
