Independent Expats Abroad (IEA) recognizes and understands the challenges that are faced living in another country without the safety-nets that exist in our respective home countries. IEA is an organization focused on serving as a sustainable support system for all expats while away from their country of origin. It is imperative that as expats we are aware and kept abreast of, not only the laws and regulations of the host country we’re residing in, but also the laws and regulations that protect us as an expat. Based on those needs, IEA was created with the aim of promoting two core values: 1) Access and 2) Interdependence. Through those core values, we can and will reduce the risk of making decisions that may be seen as normal but present a risk to our safety and well-being. Such risks can be heightened due to one’s unfamiliarity with the culture and societal norms of their new residential location. A key component of IEA for those living and working abroad is, providing access to informational resources to bridge the gap between cultural differences related to normal daily activities. These resources include but are not limited to – knowledge of labor laws, detailed procedures to obtain and maintain legal visa status to procure employment, the knowledge of the cultural nuances and more. Having this knowledge will empower each and every one of us to make sound and practical decisions, without suffering unnecessary personal and/or legal consequences while living abroad. IEA will continue to provide progress in building a foundation that will provide tools and resources to support expats towards maintaining a comfortable, productive, SAFE, and successful life abroad.
