It was a super small resto at the heart of ninenzaka. You have to pay attention because the resto located at a narrow alley. This resto recommended by my Japanese friend. Then I went here several days after with my friends who is coming all they way to Kyoto for vacation. You have to take off your shoes after entering the resto. Using cellphone is prohibited. Most probably because you will spend more time inside the resto while eating. Meanwhile, there will be many people out there waiting in line to try their menu. It makes sense. Moreover, their speciality is Maguro-don. Practically, rice with tuna sashimi as topping. Dont forget that it goes with a special sauce that makes it so tasty. It will never go wrong. The most famous one is maguro(tuna) with avocado. But they have it also with kimchi. Or, if you don't eat raw fish, they have the deepfried version as well. I found some comments said that the owner/staff is not friendly. But during my visit, I got no impression that they are as mentioned in the comment. I enjoyed my visit so much. Moreover, the price start from 10001600yen. Affordable enough for a bowl of fantastic maguro-don (forgot to mentioned it came with tofu soup which is so delicious and japanese salad things). I definitely will recommend this place to my friends!

Diamond in the rough hidden in the vicinities of the Kiyomizu-dera temple. You’ll have to leave the Main Street for 30 meters before finding it. - Location is great, if you know how to find it. - Waiting time can be an issue. The space is very limited and they might not have table for you. The owner dispatches people quickly, so it might not be as bad as could seem by the queue outside. - The inside is clean and has a very traditional vibe that gives it a special charm. You’ll have to take off your shoes before entering. - Food is excellent. You won’t have many options to choose from, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The main course will be raw or slightly grilled tuna on top of a bowl of rice. Flavor-wise, it’s delicious, you won’t regret coming here. - Staff is correct, but not very welcoming. The reduced space requires the owner to frequently encourage people to leave right after finishing their food and let the next customers sit. Overall, I’d clearly come back more than once. Hidden gem.
A little bit hard to find! It is located at off the main touristy path but once you find it, it is definitely worth it. Prolonged phone usage is prohibited but I managed to snap a few pictures. Didn't interact much with the owner though.
