Back in 2015, our founder, Sinal Meas, had the plan to visit his family in Siem Reap with some friends during Khmer New Year. His friends asked him to book a hotel room for them. They had called him just one day before. So he called straight some hotels in town that he knew but all of them were fully booked or didn’t have rooms for more than two people. By then, it became quite frustrating for him. After calling for many hours, he finally found only a small hotel room for an expensive price for them. This was quite a pain not only for his friends, but it is still for many families who travel to Siem Reap and other places in Cambodia for Khmer New Year as most of them needed hotel rooms in the last minute. Families with kids wanted good quality and comfortable family rooms. Group of friends needed spacious rooms. However, they couldn’t find what they wanted. One year later in mid 2016, Sinal started Bayonia. By circumventing traditional channels, he designed and built a simple website www.bayonia.com that lists good quality hotels especially for Cambodian groups and families with affordable prices. Sinal believes that booking a hotel room should be easy, fast and fun. He also believes that while you’re having a fun trip, impacting lives really matters. Bayonia is also on a greater mission to help and support society, in particular improving the lives of Cambodian children. Sinal was actually inspired to do something more because of his own experience again which impacted him greatly– when he and his family members were admitted to the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital in the past, free-of-charge. To fulfil his mission, every time someone books a hotel via the Bayonia platform, 2000 Riel (USD$0.50) per room per night will be donated to help support children hospitals in Siem Reap. This helps to give them access to free healthcare and give them hope for a better future.
