The staff were wonderfully kind! Unfortunately, their individual and collective understanding of palliative and end-of-life care was inexperienced, to say the least. During our mother's 30 day \end-of-life\ time at So Ptld Nursing home, we spent more time training the staff than we spent visiting with our mother. Rather than providing a safe, quiet place to pass, the staff repeatedly forced her to participate in activities (in which she had no interest), forced her to eat (despite her request to not do so), and diapering her to avoid having to assist her to the bathroom, when, in fact, she was continent. The final \evidence\ of their low level of understanding was to list her cause of death incorrectly as dementia; our mother, most definitely, passed away as the result of Non-Lymphoma Cancer; she was moved to the nursing home with the hope of doing so gracefully. Again - the staff were, for the most part, very nice people who obviously loved the residents.

My father has been living at this facility since August 2017. The staff is so aware of everything that is going on and his immediate staff knows what makes him \tick\ and have taken the time to understand his personality that it's almost like he's living with family. I can't say enough good about this home and the people that work there!
When my mother was at this facility I often stopped by to visit only to find her sitting in a puddle of urine. She rang and rang but no one came. Her toe nails grew inches long and even though I asked they were never trimmed...I did it myself. They tried to force her to take pain medication that made her sick and disoriented even when she said no. She was extremely ill and I did not find that the care was adequate. I believe it was due primarily to a severe shortage of staff. This was years ago now - I hope things have improved.
