Our experience was painful. I admit I was guilty of not doing enough homework. For a few years my grade school son wanted to invest his savings. He was fascinated with collecting coins, so 2 or 3 times a year we took his savings to Southern Star. The old man in the shop put on an impressive act of wanted to help a young boy’s hobby and feed his interest. We were never buying very expensive coins (between 50 and 175), so I didn’t do a lot of research. As time went by we started shopping at another coin shop too. After six years we had over twenty coins about half and half from the two stores. My son decided to have his coins evaluated. As it turned out ALL the coins from Southern star had “dropped in value” more than 75%. The “kind old man” in the shop wouldn’t buy any of them back at any price. My son had spent almost 1,000 of his savings on essentially worthless coins. At the same time every coin bought from the other shop had either held its value or slightly increased. The second coin shop offered to buy back every coin they had sold him. Most for an increase but the worst case was an offer to buy the coin back for what he had paid. It was a hard life lesson for a young boy. Unethical business people can be found anywhere. No matter how kind they seem, some people just cheat for a living and sleep well at night. I should have been more diligent in protecting my son’s interests. The silver lining to the story is that he also bought an ounce of gold and one share of Google during the same time. His investing still turned a small profit even though Southern Star scammed him many times. My son came away very disappointed but a little wiser. What was more sad was looking the pathetic little man behind the counter at Souther Star willing to take money from children to make a few dollars.

LOVE THIS LITTLE HIDEAWAY SHOP. Hidden gem. GREAT, informative, shopkeeper (Mr. Witt), greets u with a friendly smile. Very fair prices, I have never felt I overpaid, as with others

Very friendly, and down to earth staff! Tracy was very honest and helpful. I ended up keeping my collection, thanks to his advice and Education!!! Plus lots of great shops, and a little cafe! It's like a mall from the 50s. I loved it, and will definitely be back.
