Very interesting local history! I'm from 700 miles away but felt like a local after going through this museum. Plan on budgeting a little extra for the small book store, as well! Lots of interesting reads.

This is definitely worth a visit as this museum does a marvelous job of displaying all aspects of the high plains western culture from five states. The exhibits are arranged in an interesting and logical manner and the staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. If you come up from the south an added bonus is to take Highway 14A through scenic Spearfish Canyon

This place is great! I took my 3 kids ages 10, 7, & 4 and they had a blast. They have so many items from the 1800s and early 1900s. Their favorite room was the pony express, blacksmith and saloon room. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the Spearfish area. It is very affordable too. The lady at the desk also have us a fantastic recommendation of the DC Booth fish hatchery, also a good time.

History of the cowboy and cattle drives across the west. Lots of displays inside, a theater with 15 minute movie about the museum, and staffed with volunteers that are passionate about the early west

10 admission. Plan on two hours. It's packed with Cowboy, Custer, Native American, stage coach & carriages, homesteading, and a little local history.
