Delicious! Highly recommend the carne asada!

I was excited to try a previously undiscovered neighborhood restaurant and was charmed by space when entering for pick-up, but everything else was a disaster. I didn't enjoy the first few bites of my meal - the chicken and banana chips were soggy and the sauce was bland, but I'm not that picky and just figured I caught them on an off-day because so many of the reviews have been positive. Then, I saw the hairs. Two head hairs and one eyelash/eyebrow/beard hair. I really don't want to blast a unique local place, but that's just not OK. Especially in times like these when proper sanitation is paramount.

Ok, I have been in STL for more than three years. I was born and raised in Honduras. Prior to visiting this restaurant I had been in another Honduran restaurant and I was very disappointed; food and ambience. Well, Merendero Las Catrachitas took me back in time to my early years of my life back in Honduras. The food was very delicious and fresh. The ambience was welcoming. I had the Carne azada and it was great. If you don't know much about Honduran food know this; it is not Mexican, Puerto Rican or Dominican food. It is not spicy but it is very tasty.

I've tried their food 3 separate times. I've had their fried chicken, shrimp tostadas, pupusas and their carne asada. Everything I've tried is amazing and delicious. Love their mango juice, it has small pieces of mango. This is one of my go-to spots. I was recommended by Fritanga (Nicaraguan) to try them as Fritanga themselves stop serving pupusas. You will not be disappointed.

Authentic Honduran restaurant. Very casual and small. Spanish television on with soccer games. Friendly service. Huge portions!!! If you want tamales, go early. They sell out.
