The primary responsibility of the Office of Economic Development is to create a city of balanced economic growth with a stable tax base and a high quality of life for all members of its diverse population. Integral to this effort is retaining Stamford's flourishing corporate base and to attract new businesses to Stamford. Economic Development works closely with Stamford's business community to help resolve problems that they face and to help make Stamford a business-friendly city. Stamford is home to eight Fortune 1000 companies, three of which are Fortune 500, and supports some of Connecticut’s most prestigious businesses. Along with many regional branches, the headquarters of many prominent companies such as Charter Communications, Synchrony Financial, and Vineyard Vines call Stamford home. Stamford boasts an impressive list of finance, insurance, management, real estate, digital media, health, and consumer goods companies. By fostering some of the top businesses in the country, Stamford has created an atmosphere of success and competition that drives the best to do even better.
