A marvellous statue looking towards the Horse Guards. The level of detail of the statue is superb.

This statue is in memory of Spencer Compton, the 8th Duke of Devonshire, best known for having been the leader of three separate political parties, Liberal Party, the Liberal Unionist Party and the Unionists. He was offered the office of Prime Minister on three occasions, but refused each time. Despite this, he served the government in various cabinet and non-cabinet roles for a total of 24 years. The fourth longest ministerial career in modern British politics. This statue is located in Whitehall, along amongst the many other statues of great contributors to British history. It consists of a bronze statue of Spencer Compton atop a 4 metre high plinth. The statue shows the duke in his Garter robes. Inscribed on the front of the plinth is his title and on the rear, the Cavendish coat of arms.
