This statue stands in tribute to Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma. His legacy as Chief of Combined Operations (1941–1943) and Supreme Allied Commander in South East Asia (1943–1946), helped the allies to ultimately win the war, and as the last British Viceroy of India in the final days of the British Empire. The statue is larger than life and depicts Lord Mountbatten in his admiral's uniform, displaying his honours including the Order of the Garter. In his right hand he is holding a pair of binoculars. Hidden in the left leg of the statue is a jam jar containing coins and press cuttings. The statute is locked behind an enclosure, so some of these features can be hard to see. Shame really.

A great statue and nice place well worth a visit
Cant see it up close due to downing street
Nowhere better for a short 'historical' stroll on a sunny spring afternoon - from #trafalgarsquare to #houseofparliament / #bigben /#Parliamentsquare. Actually, at the moment it's quicker to walk than any other form of transport #Brexit #leavemeansleave #leavingissuicide. Rabble the lot of'em‼️
Walked by this statue with its small garden. It was fenced off and couldn't really see an easy way to get inside without opening gates.
I was walking round London a month or so ago.. Walked the wrong way down a road and stumbled across this statue.. My grandad was one of his footmen in India..
