The most friendly Opticians I have found all the staff are friendly and willing to help you with your inquiries. The premises are always very clean and comfortable, all in all I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for an optician.

Have been going to Steel & Varley's for many years likewise the family too, and always found service to be excellent from all the staff. Choice good for spectacles and seem up to date with equipment. The only real concern is that the premises are on two floors although they can cater for those who cannot manage the stairs.

Steel and Varley - thanks for the great service recently. My son was due his eye test, which was quickly and efficiently booked over the phone, you can also do this with the online booking system if you choose; We went along together, as soon as we arrived we were welcomed and asked to sanitise our hands at the station near the door. As we had our own masks we didn't need to use the free masks on offer to those that had forgotten/didn't have them, All social distancing rules followed in the practice. Optician wore full PPE during examination. The staff are just so helpful and lovely here. My son is 14 and can feel awkward at times, Steel and Varley staff make him feel welcome and comfortable, which is just great. The lovely ladies in reception helped my son to choose new frames, going on line to find alternatives for him, which were then delivered into the shop for him to go and try on. In all we had 3 appointments to sort his new glasses - examination, trying on and fitting once made up - and each time everyone was just so lovely and professional. My sons new glasses are super, and he loves them. Thanks everyone at Steel & Varley :)

My family (Wife,children and grandchildren) have been using Steel and Valley for over 30 years.We have an array of problems with our eyesight so need to be confident we are being looked after properly. We are always treat in a totally professional and friendly manner.Nothing is too much trouble and we wouldn't go anywhere else.

I have used Steel & Varley both as a child, an adult, and now as a parent. I have 100% trust in them and my optition Mrs Kirton, who we have seen for several years now. My youngest daughter is starting her contact lense trial and I have no doubt they will advise and look after her with care and professionalism. As a wheelchair user the shop is very accessible with no steps at the front of the shop and a large front door wide enough to fit my wheelchair with ease. The main consulting rooms are upstairs but there is a large consultation room on the ground floor with plenty of room for wheelchair users and their carer.
