Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 80+ chapters worldwide. The San Diego County Chapter is one of the largest & most active chapters in the world. Our permanent staff includes a Chapter Coordinator & Policy Manager. An 11-member Executive Committee serves as our local Board of Directors. Our impacts are primarily achieved through 9 volunteer-led committees, who work tirelessly to protect and enjoy San Diego county's 72 miles of ocean, waves and beaches.
