I bought a gold herringbone necklace from Shamin in Metrotown several years ago. It was Christmas, and I was looking for a gift for my mom. After spending a good part of a day looking through the mall, I finally decided on the necklace. Before making the purchase, I checked the necklace very carefully, front and back, to ensure no defects. The sales rep offered to take it to the back to clean it and gift box it for me - I thought it was great customer service. However, when my mom unwrap the box and took out the necklace, it had a very noticeable bent in the middle of the chain! The smooth look of a herringbone necklace was ruined! I couldn't believe it! What happened? Did the rep damage the necklace while cleaning or did she switch it for a damaged one in the back? I wanted to take it back to the store, but my mom didn't want me to go through the trouble. But until this day, it always bothered me whenever I think about it. I trusted the store, but instead, they boxed a damaged necklace, which I didn't discovered because they gift boxed it. Maybe this is an anomaly, not the common practice at the store, but as an advice to all shoppers, trust only your own eyes and don't let the merchandise out of your sight. Skip the gift box and double check it's the one you selected before leaving the store.
