They stay at home part during these times is ve ty helpful but I’m a grade 10 and this is my first year- I haven’t gotten any support or extra emails from staff saying welcome and so on... and when trying to contact my teachers they don’t even care enough to open my email- it’s not a school I would suggest going to if you have a choice as the teachers also use pre made math videos they find online- which gives me a lazy and lacking vibe- it honestly just worries me for my future education as it seems children are teaching children

This is a great school for self-motivated learners. There is a lot of freedom and opportunity to work at the pace you need. While there is far less in-class instruction, the teachers are available to provide help when you need it. The courses I took were set up in a very sequential way with quizzes often so that I could identify when I did not understand something. I was able to work through familiar material quickly but slow down and take my time for more difficult concepts. The math courses (although dry) were detailed, had a helpful review and practice component, and did not leave much room for gaps in understanding. Other courses varied in comprehensiveness (for me some required a bit more teacher support), but I am sure that anyone with a strong work ethic would be able to get good marks in them. Additionally, if you do not already have a sense of it this school will teach you the importance of time management. As for the building SAIL is currently in, it is modern and well-kept. There is plenty of natural light from the large windows and skylights throughout the building. There are walking trails next to the parking lot as well as benches and grassy areas great for lunch on sunny days. Downstairs is a cafeteria with good (but not necessarily cheap) food. Inside the building are many places to sit and work before or after school. - SAIL STEAMX student of two years
I absolutely loved this place. I'm a STEAM X student here, and the people are great, teachers are great, environment, opportunities, everything. I loved it and I wish I could stay longer. Great for self paced and motivated students. Highly recommend
I honestly like the approach this school has gone for, being a substitute for a regular high school which is becoming overcome by drugs and gangs. But, there is a few big mistakes. First of all, there is only about 10-13 people in each grade which is very little. in my experience, I've always seen people from this school depressed, and saying that they have no friends. If they were to go to steamX, the accelerated program, they probably would've given up a said social life for an accelerated education, but not everybody is ready for that. for steam, the regular program, they are getting the \same\ education as a regular high school. But they are not really getting the same education. There are a limited amount of space and staff. there is only about 2-3 classrooms, and it is literally just half a floor of an office building. I had one kid from here talk to me about his experiences, he said: he was often sad, and has no friends in sail, and is very stressed about the homework and projects that the teachers are piling on him. See for steam, the school is basically a regular high school but worst.
Being able to take the online course from home is convenient and nice. But while doing the work, the answer keys are sometimes wrong. But some of their video solutions consist of wrong steps being taken, Chapters 1 and 2 especially. After about doing 6 chapters, I've noticed too many mistakes with the curriculum. Had to lower it to 1 star, SAILS has the nerve to teach kids curriculum that they didn't check themselves. Kind of makes the District's motto \Leadership In Learning\ seem pointless and almost lying. Trusting people at Sails is equivalent to trusting a stranger with 1, 000, 000. It's that bad, so to save yourself some headaches and time, don't go here or even enroll in their online classes.
