A beautiful monument to remember our history and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Erected in 2016, this remembers the sailors who perished on the convoys leaving from Sydney Harbour. Worth a look and a read

Built to honor the sacrifice's made by member's of the Merchant Marine who played a very large part in the transfer of both soldiers and war materials from Canada to Europe during the Second World War. The Port of Sydney was well defended during those years with a submarine "net" stretched along the entrance as well as land based fortifications surrounding the coastline. Most of those can still be found as you travel along the coast with the most notable being Fort Petrie. The Fort is now being re-constructed as a museum itself.
Merchant Mariner Monument is a stunning monument dedicated to those lost at sea during numerous wars. The monument looks dramatic yet heroic. It's best visited at night when it"s lit by the moonlight reflected in the water.
Part of the boardwalk
This is an amazingly powerful sculpture that will resonate with all sailors as well as those who know men who were in the service that risked their lives to bring supplies to the Allies in WWII. Wonderfully crafted, even if long overdue. A great addition to Sydney and the harbor. Capt. C. Townsend
Definitely worth a visit if you are on the boardwalk. Powerful.
Very poignant monument!
